Ending the term with a bang, Spelling Club members Caleb, Janelle, Ashlee, Isabel, Sophie and Rikyla did a truly excellent job organising their Spelling Disco.

Keira and Lucian took the lead early on, but was locked in a long multi-tasking battle thereafter. After 4? ties, Lucian finally clinched the win with the word 'jealousy'.

Congratulations to all who took part and a special thanks to Janelle for providing the prize chocolate.

The end of Gymkids, the arrival of bees and photobombers

To the relief of teachers and the dismay of students, this week saw the end of Gymkids, which they have found truly enjoyable experience where they learnt new skills, grew their confidence and built their courage.

Student teacher Bridie Macfarlaine pulled out all the stops in organising a beekeeping expo, where students got the chance to taste (and win) various types of honey and wear a beekeeping suit.

 

Parent Teacher Conferences and Book Week

What a pleasure it was the meet the parents this week. Having met you all- including the parents who could not make it,  it is an honour, and truly inspiring, to be working alongside such caring and devoted parents, who also are extremely nice people.

The bond and love between you and your child is apparent through your interaction and their writings, as well as their fabulous costumes for the Book Parade!

Solitary Bee Home

Dear parents

I am a student from H23. We are making bee homes for a school project because the number of bees are going down and their homes are being destroyed.

You have always supported us with our learning so I am sure you’ll be happy to help us with the materials we need for our project.

If bees die we will die in 4 years because no food and no clothes. If bees die.

We need to build bee homes because we have lost 60% of native bees in the last 3 years. They will be able to get shelter and lay there eggs.

Our school will turn into a royal garden.

You should help me because it’s a school project and it’s urgent that we save the bees to help the bees and save the planet together.

Team assembly 27th March

Casey, Sophie, Ashlee, Keira, and Janelle bravely shared their memoirs of a fight (that were 60% factual) at team assembly today. They displayed some heart-warming team spirit and an infectious joy throughout their performance.

Good things happen when H23 meets H22

Our inquiry this term has centred around the sustainability of bees. H22 and H23 invaded the library together for this special session to learn as much as they could about bees, showing lots of self-directed learning and collaborative learning within and between the two classes. Bee (intentional) on the look out for their Popplets, reports and art on their blogs in the coming weeks.

Wonderful H23

Welcome to H23

Hello and welcome to an exciting year in H23. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and being part of your learning journey.

First, a little information about me. I have been teaching for many years and have taught all primary ages from Year 1 to Year 8 though most of my teaching experience is with Year 4 students.

I am originally from England but moved to New Zealand 11 years ago and now think of New Zealand as home.

I have two daughters who are 13 and 9 years old. I have 18 pets! One cat, two rabbits, 9 chickens and 6 alpacas.

This is Princess Leah and her new baby Nugget. He was born just before Christmas.

I love learning new things. My favourite lessons are maths, science, reading and writing.

I love my job and I am very proud to be part of the teaching profession. I hope you will check in regularly to see what your child has been learning and sharing their successes with them.
